Probus Kawana Waters

30th Anniversary Celebrations August 2019

With initial assistance from the Caloundra and Kawana Waters Rotary Clubs, the Probus Club of Kawana Waters was formalised in August 1989.  Since that time the Club has gone through many ups and downs, like most organisation’s of its kind, slowly but surely stabilizing into its present modern entity.  With the membership kept to a manageable 85 the Club provides a much more attractive environment in which fun, fellowship, friendship and of course enjoyment of food, can be experienced by all members.

Our General Meeting No: 347 took on a party atmosphere from the moment one walked into our usual meeting room.  No rows of chairs but round tables with yellow and blue table covers, vases of flowers, yellow and blue.  The meeting took its usual formal format before we broke for morning coffee.  The “catering team” presented us with sandwiches as well as hot finger food.

It was after this break we were introduced to our guest speaker / entertainer, Nick Britt - Nickleby the Magician!  This man followed his father into the field of illusions and now is a multi-award-winning entertainer who is performing and hosting 300+ events each year.

Forty-five minutes of amazing magic: from the ‘recycling’ of the Coca-Cola can through the imaginary pack of cards given to Ingrid to shuffle and select a card and throw the pack into a bag about two meters away where it became a REAL pack which had her choice of card back to front in the pack!  A diamond ring from one of our visitors disappeared only to “turn up” clipped onto Nick’s key ring – which was in his pocket.  Somehow Kevin Tame did not get water poured over him from a cup of water which, magically, was empty when upended!  Truly spell binding.

After that magical interlude President Michael Matthews presented 20-year membership certificates to Beth and Gordon Lattimer.  Phil Shanahan was awarded his 25-year membership though he was not able to attend the party to receive it in person. Then it was time for our most senior member, Phyllis Gerhardt to cut the cake with President Michael.

Our use of the room at Venue 114 in Bokarina had been extended to 1pm so we were able to enjoy time of Fellowship, Friendship and Fun.
